National park camping fees in Australia

Every state sets its own park fees. Queensland publishes one flat permit fee; NSW and Victoria price campground by campground. Here is what the agencies publish.

Queensland: one fee for parks and forests

WhatFee
Camping permit$7.75 per person per night, or $31.00 per family per night1
Who counts as a familya family is one or two adults with their children under 18, up to eight people in total; children under five camp free1
Taxall prices include GST1

Camping permit fees apply in national parks and other protected areas, forest reserves, state forests and recreation areas1. You must book and pay for a camping permit before you arrive at a camping area1; most permits are booked online and arrive by email.

New South Wales: campground prices plus park entry

NSW National Parks prices each campground separately and shows the price in its booking system. Park entry is a separate charge at many parks (for example: $8 per vehicle per day park entry at Murramarang National Park, on top of camping fees2). Budget for both, and add park entry to the “other costs” line in the calculator.

Victoria: bookable sites and bush camping

  • Popular campgrounds must be booked, and at bookable sites, camping is only permitted at your designated site3.
  • Dispersed or bush camping, outside designated campgrounds, is allowed in many Victorian parks, but you need to be self-sufficient3.
  • In state forests (not national parks), you can camp anywhere in a Victorian state forest if you set up at least 20 metres from waterways and stay no longer than 28 consecutive nights4.

Private holiday parks

Commercial caravan and holiday parks set their own prices, which change with the date and the site. We do not quote them: type the price from your booking into the calculator.

Work out your own trip: open the campervan hire calculator. It starts with sourced defaults and leaves the rest for your quote.
